Usage Guidelines

Indus forex card guidelines

Your Indus Forex Card is extremely versatile and simple to use, being valid worldwide (except India, Nepal and Bhutan).

The Indus Forex Card can be used to withdraw cash from ATMs as well as pay at Merchant Outlets. It works in the same way as a credit card for purchase transactions at merchant outlets, with the only difference being that the transaction amount is directly reduced from your Indus Forex Card balance. You can also use your Indus Forex Card to do online shopping/ payment transactions

Usage Guidelines

Things to remember

Traveller must adhere to the below given guidelines while using the card

  • Card is as valuable as cash and should never be left unattended
  • Surrender your card only to the designated bank officer of IndusIndBank branch. Destroy the card by cutting into several pieces through the magnetic strip
  • Personal Identification Number (PIN) to be kept as private and confidential
  • Call the IndusInd Bank 24-Hour Customer Service immediately in case your card is lost / stolen to report the loss
  • In case you need your card to be re-issued or closed, please call our Phone Banking Service or give a written request to any IndusInd Bank branch
  • Do not attempt to use Indus Forex Card at merchant establishments that do not possess electronic point-of-sale swipe terminals
  • In the unlikely situation of transaction decline at merchant establishments, please request the merchant to perform manual key entry transaction by keying in Forex Card Number (16 digits) followed by Card Expiry Period (MMYY), 3 digits CVV value printed on the back of the card along with the 4 digit ATM PIN (if prompted) issued to you as a part of the card kit. These steps could differ according to terminal and acquiring bank locally.
  • Your card has inbuilt security feature which allows 12* transactions per day and daily card usage is limited to a maximum of INR 500,000* equivalent applicable for ATM withdrawals or merchant establishment.

ATM Transactions Usage

You can use your Indus Forex Card as an ATM card at any VlSAPlus ATM for cash withdrawal. To locate a VISA ATM in the city/country of visit, please visit the VISA website http://www.visa.com

  • Please check that the ATM displays VISA and/ or VISA Plus sign
  • Insert your card in the specified slot and select the language
  • Enter your PIN
  • Select the relevant option (Withdrawal/ Balance enquiry)
  • The ATM will process the request and shall dispense cash in local currency or display the available balance
  • When asked for a receipt, press Yes/ No
  • Collect your card after the transaction

Please Note: Some of the ATM acquirers charge an additional ATM fee. Please check this before usage.

Merchant Outlet Transactions

Now make purchases at any of the merchant outlets worldwide displaying the VISA sign

  • Look for a VISA sign at the point-of-sale merchant establishment
  • Swipe the card for the purchased amount
  • On successful authorisation, funds in the card account will be debited for the transaction amount
  • A sales slip will be generated
  • Check the amount before signing the sales slip

Note: For transactions at certain merchant category (example - Restaurants, Hotels, etc), system will reserve additional 10% of the transaction value towards incidentals such as surcharge/ tips. The reserved value will be released based on the actual settlement value.

Online/ E-Commerce Transactions

You can use your Indus Forex Card over the Internet for online shopping and payments. For better control & security on the internet, activate the card for 'Verified by VISA' (VbV) before usage.

  • Visit our website www.indusind.com and select ‘Prepaid Cards’ option
  • On this page, click on ‘Register for Verified by VISA’ link and then follow steps as guided on the website
  • Your card can also be used on certain sites which do not support VbV authentication
  • On these sites you would be required to enter CVV2 number which is a three digit number provided on the reverse of the card and certain other credentials as required on these sites.
Online Card Account Access

Access your card details from anywhere and anytime through our online portal. Use the online portal to enquire on your card balance and get details on the transaction history. To access your card account online, please visit https://prepaid.indusind.com/customerportal. Credentials for login are as follows-

  • User ID - Card number as given on the card plastic
  • Password - Password is a combination of your name and card number as specified below

-First 4 characters of your name as registered at the time of card application (case insensitive)

-Last 4 digits of your card number as given on the card plastic

Monthly Statement

A monthly statement of your transactions on your Indus Forex Card will be generated. This statement can be downloaded from Internet banking portal. Your transactions will be reflected in the currency in which the card was initially purchased.

SMS Alerts*

You would be receiving SMS alerts when your card is loaded or when any transaction is done on your card over Internet, ATM or at Merchant location.

Phone Banking Service

To access your card account for any enquiry or transaction, simply call our 24 x 7 Phone Banking Service. You can call our Phone Banking Service for registering your international contact number or for any enquiry, such as account balance or transaction details. In case you need to report card lost or stolen, our Phone Banking executive shall help you with the same immediately. Our Phone Banking numbers are as follows - 1860 500 5004 (from India only) or +91 22 4406 6666 (from outside India).

Replacement Card

IndusInd Bank will arrange to replace your card as soon as we receive instructions from you. A new card will be couriered to the address available with us within 48 working hours of receiving your request. If you recover your card after you have reported its loss, please do not attempt to use it. Instead, please destroy the card by cutting it into several pieces through the magnetic strip.

Reload Facility

Your card is valid till the month and year indicated on the face of the card. During this period you can reload your Indus Forex Chip Card with additional foreign currency as and when you want. All you need to do is fill up a reload application form and make payment in Indian Rupees for the foreign currency to be loaded and we will top up your existing card. A small charge will be levied as per the tariff sheet.

Cash-Out (Refund) on Residual Load Value

On your return from travel, in case you have residual balance left on the card, you have a choice to either retain the card for your next travel or to cash-out the balance. In case you decide to cash-out the card balance, you can simply visit your closest IndusInd Bank branch or partner agent from where the card was issued. The refund shall be processed vide a payorder/ cash/ account transfer.

International Usage

Your Indus Forex Card is valid overseashowever, it is not valid for transactions in India, Nepal and Bhutan. All of your card transactions (purchase as well as cash withdrawals) overseas must be made in strict adherence to the Exchange Control Regulations of the Reserve Bank of India prevailing from time to time. In the event of your failure to do so, you will be liable for action under the Foreign Exchange Management Act 1999.

*SMS facility is available only for mobile phones bearing Indian number.

Do I need to have an IndusInd bank account to purchase the Indus Forex Card?

No,a/c with IndusInd Bank is not mandatory for purchase of Indus Forex Card. You may walk into IndusInd Bank branches or Purchase from exchange companies selling Indus ForexCard.

Do I need to apply for the card well in advance?

No! This is an "Over the Counter" product and can be bought even on the day of travel

Can this card be used in India?

No, this card cannot be used in India, Nepal and Bhutan.

How much foreign exchange can I load into the card?

The usage of your Indus ForexCard should be in strict accordance with the regulations of the Reserve Bank of India and FEMA regulations. The amount loaded or reloaded on a card should be done as per the foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 and prevailing RBI regulations in force at present.

Can I get one card loaded with multiple currencies, if I am traveling to two countries?

No. As stated above if you are travelling to more than one country on a single trip, then bank can issue more than one card to you, within the overall RBI approved limits for the trip.

Where do I call if I need some assistance?

You can call IndusInd Bank's 24-hour Customer Service Number 1860 500 5004 (from India only)/ +91 22 4406 6666 (from outside India) for any assistance and information related to your card. This is a dedicated number for all your card related assistance.

What is my PIN?

Your PIN (Personal Identification Number) is a unique 4 digit secure number assigned to your card and known only to you. It allows you to withdraw cash from VISA/ VISA Plus / ATMs worldwide with a charge as listed.

How do I find Visa ATM?

There are 1.6 Million Visa ATM's at 200 countries worldwide. Please click on the below ATM locator to find nearest Visa ATM.http://www.visa.com or http://visa.via.infonow.net/locator/global Unless you are travelling to someplace very remote, it is very unlikely that you won't be able to find one. It may please be noted that there are certain countries where, either the VISA or MasterCard has withdrawn support or there is no presence of VISA or MasterCard infrastructure. Thus, there will be no acceptability of our Travel Currency Card in such countries.

What options should I choose to withdraw cash from the ATM?

At the time of Cash withdrawal across Visa/Plus ATM's abroad, the screen will display 3 options for the type of accounts that you can carry out transactions in:

  • Credit
  • Saving
  • Checking

Please choose the "Checking/Current" option. In case the Checking/Current option is not available, you should select the "Credit" option. The savings option does not link to the VISA network and hence the transaction would not be successful.

What to do if I forget my ATM PIN?

Please call our 24/7 customer service number and request for reissue of ATM pin. We will send the ATM pin at the correspondence address provided at the time of activation of the card. This is for your own security and to prevent any fraudulent use on the card.

How should I use the Indus Forex Card at merchant establishments?

Use your Indus Forex Card for all your shopping, hotel bills, car rental, across restaurants, fees and for other travel expenses absolutely free of any charge.

What is the expiry date of the Indus Forex Card?

Indus Forex Card is valid for 3 years. Upon card expiry, please cut the Indus Forex Card into several pieces through the magnetic strip. Please visit the nearby IndusInd Branch for new card.

Whom should I contact in case I have any dispute in my transaction?

Please call our 24-hour Customer Service Number or alternatively write an email to dedicated service desk.

How do I track my transactions from wherever I am in the world?

Please login to https://prepaid.indusind.com/customerportal/ to track all your transactions while traveling from anywhere in the world.

What forex rates are charged at the time of purchase?

Forex rate are charged of the day, time the card is purchased from IndusInd Bank Branch. The forex rates are similar to the rates charged for Travelers Cheque.

Can I retain the foreign exchange on the Indus Forex Card after returning to India?

One can retain Indus Forex Card with a maximum balance of USD 2000 on it.

How can I confirm if my card has been activated/ reloaded?

You would receive an SMS and Email confirmation as soon as your card is loaded / reloaded. You can also register your international contact number with our call centre for uninterrupted transaction alerts. You can also check your balance on our website using the login id and password provided for internet banking.

Are there any charges for using a VISA ATM?

As given in charge fee grid, no ATM transaction comes free. There is a transaction fee levied for using ATMs for cash withdrawal & Balance Inquiry. Thus limit use of your card on ATM and use on POS to avoid deduction of any charges.

Whom should I contact when I need a replacement card?

Contact the 24-hour Customer Service Number 1860 500 5004 (from India only)/+91 22 4406 6666 (from outside India) for the replacement card.

How can I apply for a refund on the card?

The card can be encashed only after your return to India. Furthermore, the last transaction done on the card should be more than 10 days prior to the date of encashment. For refund of the residual or unutilised balances you have to approach the same IndusInd branch from where the card was issued. You need to complete the refund form and submit a copy of your passport along with the form.

At what rate can I get my funds refunded?

The funds would be credited to you at the ongoing rate of the day when you apply for the refund at the branch.
