Deepender was diagnosed with Polio in his right leg at an early age. Although he was always inclined towards the sport, he started shooting only 4 years ago, which is quite late as compared to his peers.
He comes from a modest family - his father is a farmer while his younger sister is currently studying in the 10th grade. He is presently focused on the 10m air pistol event but is keen to participate in the 50m free pistol event as well. He ranks 9th in the world and is one of the leading male para shooters in India.
Having tracked his performances for quite some time, Deepender was shortlisted and eventually selected for support under the Para Champions Programme 2018-19.
