Umesh has been suffering from polio since the age of 2. He has always been a sports fanatic since his childhood and has been playing various sports throughout his life which eventually helped him build his strength for the sport. He started playing badminton in 2011 at his engineering college due to availability of adequate facilities. He was always passionate about sports and dreamed of representing India through a sport.
His main support has been his college mates and his seniors to the extent that a couple of his seniors have even sponsored his initial tournaments. In addition, the Red Cross society in Bihar have also been supporting him to ensure that he continues to pursue his dream.
In 2012, he won his first bronze medal at the nationals and also won a gold medal in the para high jump event. He is a young and energetic player and is ranked 11th in the World in the Men’s Singles & Doubles circuit.
