Surajit Ghara

Surajit Ghara is the son of Krishna Ghara and Nitai Chand Ghara from Kanchanpur in West Bengal. He was born on 25 August 1992. He has two brothers, both elder to him and married. Any plans for geng married in the near future? He laughs, “There is me for that. Now I just want to play cricket”. How did he get his blindness? He was born blind. He does not have vision in his right eye from birth. His le eye has parvell vision. His vision is less than 6 meters and he is categorised as B2. He studied in Vivekananda Mission Ashram right from the beginning he declared blind. In this school he played cricket from an early age and predicated in matches in the zone. He says that there were few opportunists then for playing Blind Cricket and recognised. In 2012 a friend told him about the selecons taking place for blind cricketers to play in the state team. He went there and played very well, and got selected for the State team by the Cricket Association for the Blind in Bengal. He played for the state in the Naonals in 2013 which was conducted in Bangalore. He was selected for the T20 bi-lateral series against Australia and played for the Indian team. He recalls that he went in at No. 4 and scored 52 runs in the second match in the series, which was also his debut into international cricket. He also bowled two overs and took one wicket. For quite a long me aer this he did not get an opportunity to play for India and had to bide his me. In the meanme he played many matches in the Naonals and did very well. He recalls his 15 against Haryana as his best performance to date. He has a good record in Zonal matches with many centuries to his credit. In the Naonals he opens for his team but played at No.4 in the internaonal matches. He has finally realised his dream of coming back to the Indian team this me and will be playing in World Cup 2018. He looks forward to play in this World Cup and do well. He looks forward to continue playing for the Indian team in many more international tournaments. He says he got excellent support from his family and friends for playing cricket. He is grateful to them for that. He wants to get a good job and help his family in the future. He also wants to help other blind persons to take up cricket and bring fame and glory to his state and country. A noble thought indeed!
