Ajeya Raj

Ajeya hails from Garhwa district in Jharkhand and comes from a family of farmers. His father is a farmer, and his mother is a housewife. He met with a bicycle mishap at the age of fifteen in 2006 where he got hit by a truck and experienced a spinal injury. Because of this incident he became paralysed from the neck down. The episode left a deep mark on his life since his sister couldn't bear the setback and went into mental injury. He managed to put this behind by being focussed on his education and finished his graduation from Jharkhand University in the year 2015. As Boccia was introduced in India in 2016, Ajeya initially had absolutely no idea about the game. Later, through social media he came to know that people with a higher degree of disability can also participate. Therefore, in the year 2017, Ajeya moved to Chandigarh for rehabilitation where he associated with Jaspreet Singh, Indian Boccia coach. After playing Boccia for the first time, Ajeya felt thrilled and thought in spite of his disability he might in any case make a lifelong in sports. He took part in the National Championships which was followed by extraordinary outcomes. His most memorable moment came during the 2022 National Championship held in Punjab as he secured the gold medal in a mixed category.
