Manpreet Kaur

Manpreet has been affected by polio from the time she was an infant (6 months old). After completing her B. Com and B. Ed. degrees, she was trying to get a private job to sustain herself and her family by starting a professional career. When things didn't work out, in December 2012, she started considering sports as a career option. She was introduced to the sport of powerlifting through her college principal, who took her to an academy. From then on, her interest grew in the sport. Manpreet was completely unaware of the sporting opportunities for para athletes until then, and was unsure of the possibilities. Her mother is a housewife and Manpreet has 3 brothers who are all carpenters by profession. Manpreet’s family’s income was not sufficient to support her sporting requirements, and at this point her former coach, Mr. Parminder Singh, and fellow para powerlifter Mr. Rajinder Singh Rahelu, proved to be her biggest sources of support. Manpreet has made phenomenal strides under the watchful eye of Rajinder Singh Rahelu, recording some memorable wins at the domestic as well as international stage.
