Nisha Kanwar

In 2018, Nisha's brother-in-law, a national-level shooter, sparked her interest in the sport after she caught a glimpse of his medals. Prior to that, she had been preparing for competitive exams to secure a stable job. Intrigued by the sport, Nisha began shooting, and her brother-in-law, along with JP Nautiyal and Vijay Kumar Sharma at Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi, played pivotal roles in honing her skills, accuracy, and focus. Family support has been crucial since Nisha started training for Para shooting. Her father advised her to pursue what she felt was best for her. Her mother encouraged her to focus on the sport, and her brother played a significant role by accompanying her to the training base and picking her up daily. Initially training in both rifle and pistol, Nisha focused on pistol shooting after excelling at the state-level tournament. Her father arranged the funds to procure her first pistol. As her performance peaked, she secured a place in the Indian national shooting team and subsequently started winning multiple international medals. In 2023, she represented the country at the Asian Para Games, aspiring to participate in the Paralympics and clinch a medal. Nisha currently trains at Bhavani Shooting Range in Rajasthan, where her family resides. Despite the range's limited equipment, she perseveres, attending national camps or competitions for better facilities. She was inducted into the Para Champions Programme in 2023.
