Rakesh Kumar

Hailing from the small town of Katra, in Jammu, Rakesh was the lone survivor of a road accident in 2009, which left him bound to a wheelchair due to the injuries he sustained. After going through years of pain and suffering, his sporting talents were noticed by his current coach and mentor, Mr. Kuldeep Vedwan, in 2017, who invited Rakesh to train at his Archery academy to try to put his pain behind him, giving him a new lease of life. In the last three years, Rakesh has grown immensely and performed incredibly for India at mega events, even winning a quota for the nation for the Tokyo Paralympics. He has won medals for India at Para-Archery competitions all over the world, and is looking to add more medals to his collection. Rakesh’s tale is a beautiful story which depicts the role sport can play in changing one’s life in unimaginable ways. Yet another feather was added to his cap when he participated in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 ranking 6th. Rakesh is a diligent athlete who is committed to performing at the highest level he possibly can. We are sure more accolades will come his way in the future.
