Sumit

Born and raised in New Delhi, Sumit aspired to be a wrestler and was practicing for the same, but sadly he met with an accident in 2015 which curtailed that dream. Sumit was introduced to para athletics by another para athlete, Rajkumar, while he was pursuing his B.Com in Delhi. In 2017, Sumit started training under Nitin Jaiswal in Delhi, following which he started competing in various National and International events. Sumit displayed very early on that he had the skill and ability to exceed at javelin throw, with some impressive performances across domestic events. In 2019, at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Italy, he created history when he broke the world record in the F64 category en route to winning the silver medal in the Combined Event, an incredible achievement. He rose from strength to strength, clinching the silver medal at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships, Dubai, breaking his own world record in the F64 category. The pinnacle of his career thus far came at the Tokyo Paralympics, where Sumit coasted to the gold medal in truly dominant fashion, obliterating the world record 3 times in the process. Constantly striving to improve, it wasn’t long until Sumit broke his own record yet again, throwing 73.29m at the Asian Para Games, China.
