Varun Bhati

Varun is one of India’s top para high jumpers. Hailing from a reasonably well-to-do family, Varun has made great progress in his sport. Afflicted by Polio at an early age, he took up high jump in his school days, and has been consistently getting better. With a bachelor’s degree from Delhi University in Mathematics, Varun has represented India at various international events. He registered the `A` qualification mark for the 2012 London Paralympics with a performance of 1.60m, but narrowly missed out on the final berth. He represented India at the 2014 Asian Para Games, Incheon & 2015 IPC World Para Athletics Championship, Doha - where he performed reasonably better than his fellow national compatriots. However, Varun came into the limelight at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, where he clinched the bronze medal in the High Jump event. He followed that up with another bronze at the 2017 IPC World Para Athletics Championship, London. Following that, Varun also participated in Tokyo Paralympics 2021. After that he won Gold & Silver Medal in the Tunisia Grand Prix in the year 2021and 2022. Varun has been a consistent performer since then.
