Kajal Atpadkar: Field Hockey

Kajal was born while her mother was working as a wage laborer on a sugarcane field. Kajal’s life until now has been like a roller coaster ride. While growing up, she had to take care of her younger brother. Her elder sisters got married at a tender age of 15 years. Having seen her sisters getting married at an early age, Kajal was afraid if she will also be married off in her teenage. Her parents kept shifting to different location due to their work as cutting sugarcane and in effect, Kajal could not attend school. She had been through hardships since her childhood. As most of her life is spent in jungles and sugar-cane arms, she had to make sure that she isn’t stepping on the venomous snakes like viper, cobra and krait. As such, Kajal saw the Mann Deshi Champions bus and a picture of children playing with the ball on the bus caught her attention. She was curious to know more and she got into the bus. Little did Kajal knew that she had opened doors of her bright future while opening the door of the bus. She came to the Champion’s ground and was mesmerized to see bunch of children playing and running over there. She started running and now she loves to run 800meters. She had no idea of how a date tastes like before she had it in the Champions and date is her favorite dry fruit now. Later on, Kajal explored different sports and enjoyed playing co-ed field hockey on the ground. She started working on her craft and as expected, Kajal got selected in National School of Sports in Aurangabad. After joining National Sports School, she found wings to her dreams and she started representing for the Maharashtra State. A girl like Kajal, who otherwise would have got married at an early age, or working as a laborer in the sugarcane field is playing in the National level competitions like Khelo India and making us all proud.
