- Girl Power - Rupanshi
Hailing from district UNA, Himachal Pradesh, Rupanshi trains in the 52kg weight category. She lives with her mother, father and elder brother. Her father is Shopkeeper and her mother is a housewife. Rupanshi recalls how she started judo " I live in the plains of Himachal Pradesh which is at the border of Punjab and Himachal. I started judo after watching one girl from my neighbourhood winning a medal at the district level so my brother and I requested our parents to let us also start judo so we can also win medals and become popular in our neighbourhood". Her inspiration in judo is Fabio Basile from Italy who is the 2016 Olympic champion. She likes him because of his hunger for more medals and passion for judo. She joined IIS because of the facilities and to gain the best skills because in Himachal there are no good centres. After joining IIS, she has made some friends whom she resonates with and feels they are the right peers for her to excel at her sport. The gym facility has helped her to know more about gym techniques and grow. She recalls overcoming her fears " It was my fight with the national champion. When I started playing in the new weight category I was excited to fight with her and after I beat her, it was a good memory for me". She aims to go to international tournaments and win medals there so she can experience a big welcome when she comes back home and wants everyone in India to know her name. She speaks Hindi, English and Himachali. She likes swimming, cooking and eating Korean and spicy foods. She likes to watch Korean series and action movies and movies based on real life events.
