- Player Profile - Parul Dalsukhbhai Parmar
Parul was affected by polio when she was only 3 years old. Her dad was a national level player, and hence she was encouraged by him to pick up the sport for exercise. She played a U-10 open tournament and was encouraged to actively practise the sport from that point onwards. At 29 years old, she participated in her first Para Badminton World Cup. Over th course of a glittering career, Parul has won 4 World Championships & 2 Gold medals in the Asian Para Games. Parul has been working on probation as a Senior Coach since 2011 in the Sports Authority of Gujarat. She also worked in the Postal Department from 1993-2017, retiring as Deputy Postmaster to focus on the Tokyo Paralympics. Against all odds Parul has shown great spirit and worked hard to achieve her goals, winning world championships and becoming world number 1 in the women singles SL3 category. The decorated veteran is also the recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2009 and was also awarded the Eklavya Award by the Government of Gujarat. At the age of 48, she represented India in Para Badminton at the Tokyo Paralympics, which is no ordinary feat.
