Virender

Sport has always been in Virender's blood. His father, who apart from being a farmer, was also a wrestler, inspired Virender to take up Kabaddi in his early days. An employee of the Indian Army, Virender lost his leg in a road accident and took to para sports soon after. He initially trained for powerlifting before moving to shot put and javelin throw, where his natural strength held him in great stead. Virender represented India at the 2016 Paralympic Games and performed admirably in the Shot Put and Javelin Throw events, which proved to be important performances in his career, propelling him towards challenging for honours at international events of repute. Virendr is also a mentor to other young athletes, playing an important role in the grooming of Para-Javelin Thrower, Sumit Antil, who won a gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympics. Virender is originally from a village on the outskirts of Sonipat and now resides in the town of Sonipat along with his wife, and two children - one son and a daughter. Inspired by their father, his daughter, has already taken up the sport of shot put and his son is keen on taking up Javelin.
