Swapnil Patil

Afflicted by Polio at an early age, Swapnil started swimming on the advice of doctors at the age of six, as a form of Hydrotherapy. Inspired by one of India’s most successful swimmers, Virdhawal Khade, young Swapnil Patil relocated to Bangalore to train at the same swimming centre as his idol in Dolphin Aquatics. The tall, lanky Kolhapur boy began competing and soon started winning medals at all local swim meets. Having done well at the National level, Swapnil represented India at internationals winning his first international medal aged 15 years. In 2014, he was chosen to be part of the Indian swimming team for the Asian Para Games in Incheon, Korea. He was part of the bronze medal winning 4x100 medley relay team, which was a very proud moment for the young boy. Over the next few years, he continued to shine on the international stage and cemented his status as one of the best para swimmers in the country. At the 2018 Asian Games, he won a Bronze medal in the 400m Freestyle event, as well as a Silver medal in the 150m Freestyle event, showcasing how far he had come in the 4 years since he was last Asian Games. Swapnil has won multiple medals at different Para Swimming National Championships over the years.
